چکیده

Abstract Mountain forests in Europe have to face recently speeding-up phenomena related climate change, reflected not only by the increases mean global temperature but also frequent extreme events, that can cause a lot of various damages threatening forest stability. The crucial task management is adapt environmental uncertainties using strategies should be undertaken enhance resistance and resilience, as well maintain biodiversity provision ecosystem services at requested levels. Forests play an important role mitigation change. stand features increase smartness could improved applying appropriate silvicultural measures, which are powerful tools modify forests. chapter provides information on importance selected change prescriptions level focusing achieve required smartness. selection supported application simulation models. sets treatments alternatives inherent part adaptive leading approach changing conditions.

Assessment of Forest Insect Conditions at Opax Mountain Silviculture Trial

Forest management in British Columbia requires that all resource values are considered along with a variety of appropriate management practices. For the past 100 years, partial-cutting practices were the method of choice when harvesting in Interior Douglas-fir (IDF) zone ecosystems. Along with a highly effective fire suppression program and minimal stand tending, these practices have created ne...

Ice Cores , High - Mountain Glaciers , and Climate

The near-global retreat of high-mountain glaciers and the shrinkage of ice fields and ice caps and retreat of their associated outlet glaciers are perhaps the most visible evidence for 20th-century climate change and the recent increase in the globally averaged near-surface temperatures of the Earth’s surface. The loss of high-mountain glaciers—including ice fields, ice caps, and other glaciers...
